[A study of neonatal behavioral characteristics: The relationship between Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and infant-perception by nurses].

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to measure the behavioral characteristics of neonates and to investigate the relationship between these characteristics and infant-perception by adults (nurse). Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (BNBAS) were administered to 45 neonates three or four days after birth. Nurses were required to assess the perception of the neonates who received BNBAS during two to five days after birth. The main findings were as follows: A factor analysis was performed on the behavioral items of BNBAS, and six factors corresponding to Osofsky's factors (1977) were extracted. As for the behavioral items, there was no significant sex differences. Some of BNBAS factors related to the infant-perception by nurses.

Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale: a psychometric study in a Portuguese sample.
BACKGROUND The Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS, Brazelton & Nugent, 1995) is an instrument conceived to observe the neonatal neurobehavior. Data analysis is usually performed by organizing items into groups. The most widely used data reduction for the NBAS was developed by Lester, Als, and Brazelton (1982). OBJECTIVE Examine the psychometric properties of the NBAS items in a sample...
متن کاملBrief report: HIV-exposed newborns show inferior orienting and abnormal reflexes on the Brazelton Scale.
Assessed 48 infants of HIV-positive and HIV-negative mothers on the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale. Infants exposed to HIV-positive mothers were disadvantaged from birth due to their mothers having obstetric complications and to the infants having orienting problems and abnormal reflexes on the Brazelton Newborn Scale. These problems may be early precursors of the later visual-s...
متن کاملThe neonatal behavioral assessment scale as a biomarker of the effects of environmental agents on the newborn.
The organization of the newborn's brain and the nature of the effects of toxins and pollutants conspire to produce complex and difficult problems for the assessment of the behavioral effects of environmental agents. The newborn's brain can be characterized as relatively undifferentiated, and more vulnerable to, but potentially more capable of recovery from, the effects of environmental agents s...
متن کاملAssociation between in utero organophosphate pesticide exposure and abnormal reflexes in neonates.
The detrimental effects of organophosphate pesticide (OP) exposure on neurodevelopment have been shown in animals. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between in utero and early postnatal OP exposure and neonatal neurobehavior in humans, as measured by seven clusters (habituation, orientation, motor performance, range of state, regulation of state, autonomic stability, and reflex...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Motor Function and Behavioral Function in Infants with Low Birth Weight
OBJECTIVE Nowadays, the evaluation of all aspects of infant development is important. However, in practice, some of these assessments, especially those requiring more manipulation on high-risk infants, may impose additional stress on them. Therefore, sometimes it is essential to utilize the results of a developmental assessment for the prediction of some other aspects of development. This study...
